Chet Nelson was arrested on August 22, 2019 and charged in the August 4, 2017 sexual assault of a 26-year-old woman in Teton, Idaho. She was walking in Victor City Park at around 1:00 am when she was grabbed by an assailant and violently assaulted. The victim resisted and was nearly killed. She had been strangled to the point where the blood vessels in her eyes burst from a lack of oxygen.
A DNA profile was obtained from the victim’s sexual assault kit. The FGG investigation was conducted by Colleen Fitzpatrick of Identifinders. The initial confirmation was made through the surreptitious sampling of a piece of chewing tobacco spit out by Nielson.
Nielson pled guilty to the offence and has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
