Ivan Keith was arrested on August 2, 2019 and charged in the November 22, 1998 rape of a 47-year-old woman in Easton, Massachusetts, and the July 27, 1997 rape of a 36-year-old woman in Taunton, Massachusetts.
The first assault took place inside a business, where a female janitor was kidnapped, bound, and sexually assaulted while taking out the trash. The second assault occurred outside a high school in Taunton, where the woman was exercising on the school track when she was kidnapped, bound, and sexually assaulted in a nearby wood. Investigators believe that Keith may be linked to two other unsolved rapes, and further charges may be laid.
There is no data on who conducted the FGG investigation. Investigators made the initial confirmation through the surreptitious sampling of a vaping pipe used by Keith.
Keith is a registered sex offender and is also charged with failing to comply with the terms of registration. He was located in Maine living under a false name. He has convictions for sexual offences in the 1980s, the 1990s, and in 2000. He absconded on a 2003 trial date in Brockton District Court in 2003 on sexual offences, and thus he managed to avoid providing a DNA sample.
Keith pled guilty in February of 2021 in Bristol County to five counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping and breaking and entering, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, perjury, as well as failing to register as a sex offender and failure to provide DNA. He was sentenced to 25 to 30 years. He is already serving 19 to 20 years for other, similar, rapes.
