Fifty-six-year-old Jason Follette was arrested on November 9, 2022 for the August 11, 1996 rape of a 21-year-old woman in Hancock, Maine. The woman was sexually assaulted by an unknown suspect who broke into her apartment.
A DNA profile of the suspect was developed from evidence left at the crime scene. A “John Doe Warrant” was issued by District Attorney Michael Povich just before the statute of limitations was about to expire. This is the first time that charges have been filed in Maine using a John Doe Warrant.
The FGG investigation was conducted by Othram in partnership with the Maine State Police, beginning in 2022.
Follette is facing a charge of sexual assault in the Hancock County Superior Court, and is being held in the Hancock County Jail. He is a suspect in four or five similar sexual assaults that took place in Hancock County. Those investigations are continuing, and further charges may be forthcoming.
