Karima Jiwani

Baby India was found on June 6, 2019 in Forsyth, Georgia. A local resident was walking with his two daughters when the girls thought they heard a baby crying in the woods. They searched the area, and found the baby inside a plastic bag, which had been placed on top of a pile of leaves and sticks. She was a newborn infant with her umbilical cord still attached. The baby was taken to the hospital, and she survived. The community provided care and donations to the infant. Since adopted, she became known to the community as Baby India.

The FGG investigation was conducted by Othram in partnership with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Atlanta FBI. The final confirmation was made to the father of Baby India.

Baby India’s biological parents were located. 40-year-old Karima Jiwani was identified as the mother of Baby India. She was arrested on May 18, 2023 and charged with several offences, including attempted murder, child cruelty, abandonment and aggravated assault in Forsyth County Superior Court.

Police state that interviews with family members indicated that she has a history of hidden and concealed pregnancies and births. She has older children described as being from school-age to near-adult. They also state that the father was not aware of the pregnancy.

Like many of the Baby Doe cases, the arrest of Jiwani was controversial, with many claiming that it did not fall under the GEDMatch Terms of Service, as attempts, such as attempted murder, are not covered. The GEDMatch Terms of Service permit law enforcement use for aggravated assault.
