On June 14, 2023, police arrested 52-year-old sell Marubbio in Palatka, Florida, for a December 19, 1987 rape in Woodbridge, Virginia.
The victim was a 50-year-old store clerk who was working at a service station when she went to use the restroom. An unknown assailant followed her into the washroom, where he bound her, threatened her with a knife, and sexually assaulted her.
The investigation was reopened in 2021. The FGG investigation was led by the Prince William County Police Department in partnership with an unnamed private laboratory.
The name of the accused has not been released. At the time of the offence he was 17 years old and living in close proximity to the service station where the rape took place. The accused in currently being detained in Putnam County, Florida, where he is awaiting extradition to face charges of rape and abduction with intent to defile in the juvenile division of Prince William County Circuit Court.
